Our Project
|
In our project, we showed the physics of a full driver golf swing and how to improve your own swing in a video. This video was made by Isabella, David, Andre, and I. Our job was to figure out the physics behind the full swing and find a way to help golfers to advance their skills, using physics.
To make the video, we first had to choose a sport and an action. Our group chose the full swing in golf. Then we had to make a storyboard and script. The storyboard consisted of what shots we wanted in our video and the script had everything we needed to say including the calculations, once we got them. After that we looked for two videos of professional golfers doing a full swing with a driver. Once we got our videos, we had to scale the height of the golfer in the video and the actual hight he was in real life and got 1.15 ft for every 0.001 m he was in the video. Then we used this in our calculations to find the potential and kinetic energy, momentum, and velocity. After, we added the captions to show our calculations and did a voiceover, edited the video, and added background music. |
Concepts
- Velocity - rate of distance covered in any given direction
- Momentum - tendancy of an object moving to keep on moving
- Potential Energy - the amount of energy an object has because of the height or position in a gravitational field
- Kinetic Energy - energy an object has due to motion
- Force - the push or pull on an object causes change in motion
- Elastic Collision - when no kinetic energy is lost during a collision
Reflection
During this project, I have learned many new things. I learned more about golf and how to improve the full swing, as well as how to work in a group better. Some things my group and I had some trouble with was that we had to go back and re-edit our video because we found our original calculations were not accurate. We spent many lunches and time in class trying to fix this problem. Finally, we finished and got a great final product out of it. Some things that went well was finding the professional golfers. There were many videos of the golfers in slow motion that we were able to use to find new ways to improve the swing.
