Our Project
Our project was to create a cladogram and a story on how pieces of hardware evolved into species. My group and I were given a container of random hardware pieces and told to separate them into group based on how they were evolved. My team and I created a taxonomy for each hardware based on the domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. This is how we separated them into their own species. Then we created a cladogram based on those taxonomies to further explain the evolution. Our group also created a video on how we categorized them and the story of how each hardware evolved.
Content
adaptation - any change in an organism to help it survive.
artificial selection - breeding of two organisms to create an offspring with a desired trait
evolution - when organisms adapt to their environment and develop into new species
isolation - the lack of interbreeding or little genetic mixing between organisms of the same species
competition - when organisms compete and harm one another in some way
natural selection - the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring
speciation - the creation of a new species
survival of the fittest - the continued existence of organisms that are best adapted to their environment
taxonomy - the branch of science concerned with classification
Theory of Evolution - the process by which organisms change over time as a result of changes in heritable physical or behavioral traits
variation - any difference between organisms caused by genetic or environmental differences
Founder's effect - the loss of genetic variation that occurs when a new population is established by a very small number of individuals from a larger population
genetic drift - variation in the relative frequency of different genotypes in a small population

Reflection
Overall I enjoyed this project due to its peaks. One of those peaks was the fact that I was working with my friends who I get along with and work my hardest with. Each of us know how to split up the work evenly and contribute new ideas. Another peak was the fact that we went above and beyond for this project. We finished 2 days early so we decided to create a movie to explain our evolution story. We finished the filming and voice overs in one day and even took home the project to edit the movie over the weekend. Some pits, or things that didn't go as well, was the making of the cladogram. We had to redo it because it did not look exactly the way we wanted it to. We had to tape two posters together to fit everything we wanted, but in the end it turned out well. Another pit was the fact that I did not take a vey leading roll this project.
